Sony SmartCam running Scorpion Vision Software® is shipping
In close cooperation with Sony, Scorpion Vision Software® is integrated into the XCI-SX1 SmartCam.
Combining
the high resolution images with Scorpion’s world class gauging
tools makes the basis for high precision gauging and object
location applications.
Clear monochrome images are captured by the advanced 1/2" type IT CCD sensor at 1280x1024 SXGA resolution. Vertical and Horizontal binning reduces image size to 640 x 512 and improves image quality. A full version of the Scorpion Vision Software®, running on top of the Windows XP Embedded operating system, processes the images in real time inside the camera.
The Sony SmartCam
running Scorpion Vision Software® is especially well
suited for robot vision applications. The camera is directly
mounted to the
robot communicating over RS-232 or tcp/ip.
The Scorpion Vision Software® used in SmartCam is the same software as used in advanced PC based vision systems. This makes an eventual upgrade quick and easy. Multiple SmartCams are maintained over tcp/ip from a PC running the Scorpion Maintenance software.

Scorpion Vision Software 4.3 is available
Scorpion Vision Software 4.3 is a result of our continuous development to help vision engineers making faster, more reliable and advanced machine vision application.
Combining Scorpion Pattern Finding with Sony SmartCam provides exciting possibilities in Robot Vision
Automotive casting parts are located reliably with mm accuracy. This is the result of 6th order lens calibration, adaptive thresholds, redundant six point robot calibration, robust and sub-pixel object location resolving scale, rotation and perspective. Based on mutiple reference systems and the field proven Scorpion tools: Calibrator, ExternalReference TemplateFinder3 and PolygonMatch.
Feature Classification - Classifier Tool
The most important new feature in 4.3 is feature classification found in the new Classifier tool. The Classifier tool is a very powerful alternative to boolean business logic. With the classifier tool general purpose identification tools are easy to develop.
Adaptive Tresholding in EdgeFinders
Other important features are dynamic thresholds for trace lines improving edge detection in PolygonMatch, LineFinder2, TemplateFinder3 and PolyLineEdgeFaults2.
Higher Inspection Rates
New Fast Mode reduces overhead in inspection system with high inspection rate.
